Marie Barsona has a vision for enabling greater Human Resources support and efficiency through technology. During the three years she has worked for le Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario, Marie has been building upon that vision, while building strong support and appreciation for her projects among her colleagues and leaders at the Conseil. Marie's groundbreaking work on a Substitution and Attendance module has streamlined this core program, realizing considerable savings in dollars, lost time and stress across a system involving more than 2000 teaching professionals. Marie is constantly searching out new ways to improve processes and the quality of available information.

Start. Stop. Continue - has been Gail's mantra since she joined Corel in 2002. Stop - negative business results. Start - to change operational effectiveness, and Continue - to grow revenue. Gail has been a champion of the strategic direction to turn Corel into a profit generating company with capacity for growth and has been steadfast throughout Corel's corporate renewal. Gail has been the key in the completion of the evaluation of existing programs, management processes, talent/workforce reviews and the formulation of recommendations that have rebuilt Corel to be an energized effective organization.

For more than 25 years, Daniel Picard has made an outstanding contribution to the Human Resources profession. From organizing various Human Resource events to assisting in establishing l'Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines et relations industrielles agrées du Québec in the Outaouais region to serving as an inspiration in the mentorship of young professionals. Through many hours of volunteer involvement, Daniel has had a significant impact on the advancement of the Human Resources profession in our region.

Offerings have significantly broadened to include more than 15 different residential programs - which lead to 3 certificates. Their commitment to excellence and meeting business needs, has equipped them to address the ever-changing landscape of Human Resources by providing state of the art programs and delivery methods. Queens Industrial Relations Centre has made and continues to be a leader in its field.

The Mercer Vision Award
For Innovative Design & Implementation of a Human Resources Program and/or Project
Martin Baker-Sohn and Adèle Ross
The EDC Career Hub Project, Export Development Canada
In 2004, Martina and Adèle teamed together at Export Development Canada to develop a tool to help employees explore career options and help managers to have useful career discussions with them. After extensive consultations within EDC, the team produced an intranet site, which includes over 270 distinct roles sorted into job families and with career maps for each stream depicting roles, salary bands and typical career progressions. It also includes a supporting model outlining 6 leadership and 11 core competencies. Information sessions were held with 1200 employees and in its first month, the site was accessed by two thirds of permanent staff.

Margo has not only provided leadership in establishing excellent HR practices at Meriton Networks, but she has also demonstrated her flexibility, commitment and interpersonal skills in taking on additional roles and responsibilities at Meriton. Further, she readily shares her 18 years of experience with other members of the HR community and non-profit organizations.
